Norfolk gansey patterns
Wells-next-the-Sea
I have not found a lot of information about ganseys from Wells. The one I collected from David Cox, former coxswain the Wells lifeboat, was not knitted in the town, being either Sheringham or knitted by a Scots herring girl. There was a pattern "deciphered" from a photograph of the Wells lifeboat crew from the early 20th century and published by the proprietor of Cloister wool and craft shop as a Wells pattern but this was a mis-interpretation of the well-known machine-knitted waves or marriage lines.
