Note This would appear to be so uncharacteristic of Sheringham that it must surely be commercial, maybe from a marine outfitters, or a Scottish design, possibly acquired from a Scots fisher lass whilst on a 'great boat' voyage to Grimsby or from Great Yarmouth where they came 'in the season'. Horizontal herringbones patterns (diagonals) are documented by Gladys Thompson (Scottish Fleet XXII, p. 111, Dover edition, Patterns for Jerseys, Guernseys and Arans). Betty Martin is well known from Whitby and the Scottish Fleet.
